The Saint Barth Film Festival “Cinéma Caraïbes” is back after a two-year absence due to the Covid pandemic. On May 4-7, 2022, the festival will celebrate its 25th anniversary, which did not take place as planned in 2020, or again in 2021.
Four feature-length films are on the program for the 25th St Barth Film Festival, including two documentaries. The first two films will be shown on May 4 and 5 at AJOE in Lorient, while the films on May 6 and 7 will be shown on the dock in Gustavia, pending approval from the Collectivity.

Né le 4 février 1965 à Terre de haut, les Saintes, fils de pêcheur, Pascal Foy participe dès l’âge de 10 ans à la confection de canots Saintois. Il acquiert là ses premières expériences dans la charpente marine et dans le travail du bois en particulier.
C’est à 26 ans, après quelques années sur le
« TRIC », le plus grand trimaran du monde à l’époque et une année en France que Pascal débute sa carrière d’artiste. Il se lance dans la confection de façades de cases créoles. Il s’installe alors dans son atelier des Saintes où il réalise toujours ses œuvres.
Born on February 4, 1965 in Terre de Haut, Les Saintes, son of a fisherman, visual artist Pascal Foy has been involved from the age of 10 in the making of Saintois canoes. There he acquired his first experiences in marine framework techniques and in woodworking in particular.
At the age of 26, after a few years on the “TRIC,” the largest trimaran in the world at the time, and a year in France, Pascal began his career as an artist. He embarked on creating Creole cottage facades in wood. He then opened his workshop in Les Saintes where he still produces his work.

Nos cases traditionnelles, comme dans toute la caraïbe, ne sont pas que des témoins du passé. Si on veut prendre le temps de les comprendre, elles se révèlent être alors une source de création pour l’avenir.
Des artistes, architectes ou chorégraphes ouvrent ici grand les portes de ces cases pour, au-delà de leur aspect historique ou esthétique, nous amener à imaginer une part d’avenir porté par l’esprit qui anime les cases.
Emile Romney, architecte urbaniste a été diplômé en 1987 à l’École d’Architecture de Paris-Tolbiac. Il est membre du collège fondateur de la Fédération Caribéenne d’Associations d’Architectes (FCAA) en 2000 et a été nommé depuis 2019 Examinateur Externe pour la Caribbean School of Architecture (CSA) à Kingston.
On lui doit en Guadeloupe, le collège Bebel de Sainte-Rose, le siège de la Communauté des Communes à Marie-Galante, Le SCUIO à l’Université à Pointe-à-Pitre, le Village de Containers du Raizet ou encore un programme de logements alternatifs en Guyane.
Emile Romney porte une attention particulière à ce qui fait lien, ce qui permet aux individus et aux esprits de faire naitre leur monde. C’est une attention qui nourrit autant ses projets d’architecture que ses projets de design et mobilier. Ses productions sont résolument contemporaines mais une sensibilité particulière à l’histoire et au patrimoine l’ont conduit en 2021 à réaliser deux documentaires afin de sensibiliser les institutions et la population à la nécessité de préserver les cases traditionnelles.

Our traditional “kaz”, or cottages, as throughout the Caribbean, are not just witnesses of the past. If we want to take the time to understand them, they reveal themselves as a source of creation for the future.
Artists, architects, and choreographers open the doors of these “kaz” to bring us to imagine a future based on the spirit that animates these cottages, beyond their historical or aesthetic aspect.
Emile Romney, an architect-urbanist, earned his degree in 1987 at the Paris-Tolbiac School of Architecture. He was a founding member of The Federation of Caribbean Associations of Architects (FCAA) in 2000, and since 2019 has been an external examiner for the Caribbean School of Architecture (CSA) in Kingston, Jamaica.
In Guadeloupe, his projects include the Bebel Middle School in Saint Rose, the headquarters for the Community of Municipalities in Marie Galante, Le SCUIO at the University in Pointe-à-Pitre, the Containers Village at Raizet, and an alternative housing complex in French Guiana.
Emile Romney pays particular attention to what connects individuals and allows their minds to create their world. It is this attention that nourishes his architectural projects as much as his design and furniture projects. His work is resolutely contemporary, but a particular sensitivity to history and heritage led him to make two documentaries in 2021 to raise awareness among institutions and the public of the need to preserve traditional Creole cottages.
