The Saint Barth Film Festival “Cinéma Caraïbes” is back after a two-year absence due to the Covid pandemic. On May 4-7, 2022, the festival will celebrate its 25th anniversary, which did not take place as planned in 2020, or again in 2021.
Four feature-length films are on the program for the 25th St Barth Film Festival, including two documentaries. The first two films will be shown on May 4 and 5 at AJOE in Lorient, while the films on May 6 and 7 will be shown on the dock in Gustavia, pending approval from the Collectivity.

Le film se veut une célébration de l'héritage musical de Saint-Barth et un regard sur la grande variété de musiciens qui viennent du monde entier. Ce documentaire plonge dans les coulisses pour montrer une vue de l'île que la plupart des gens ne voient jamais.
« Parlez-Vous Musique ? » met en lumière « un style musical unique nettement différent » de celui des autres îles de la Caraïbe. Le réalisateur va dans les quartiers pour y observer la musique insulaire et les gens qui la créent. C’est la première fois que le film sera projeté dans les Caraïbes.
Alexander Bendahan, producteur de film indépendant, élevé à San Francisco en Californie, s'implique véritablement dans le film en 2000. A 50 ans, il reprend ses études au San Francisco City College puis à Cal State Hayward et San Francisco State University, pour étudier la composition musicale et la musique électronique. Bendahan, qui était déjà à cette époque un professionnel de la musique avec 30 ans d'expérience, travaillait avec des camarades étudiants sur la musique et les sons de leur projets de film de fin d’études.
En 2003 il commença à produire ses premiers projets de films en France, avec tout d'abord un clip promotionnel pour une compagnie d'opéra dans les Pyrénées, suivi d'un court documentaire avec le photographe britannique Rose Murray. En 2009 il commença à travailler avec le festival de musique de Saint Barthélemy, ce qui l'a mené au St. Barth Film Festival et son son premier long projet documentaire Parlez-vous Musique?
Charly Veille est né en Guadeloupe en 1988. Il est d’origine française et antillaise, et malgré plusieurs voyages avec ses parents, c’est entre la Guadeloupe et St Barthélemy qu’il grandit.
C’est en classe de 3ème au collège Mireille Choisy à St barth qu’il à l’occasion de rencontrer Nicole Péraud lors d’un stage audiovisuel.De ce stage nait une passion et l’envie de s’orienter vers le cinéma. Pour cela il part suivre ses études secondaire au Canada. Son but: faire des documentaires et des clips vidéos.
Ses études terminées, il rentre à St Barth et commence à travailler dans la vidéo. Il réalise plusieurs clips vidéos pour des artistes locaux ou de passage sur l’ile entre quelques contrats promotionnels ou événementiels. Il rencontre Alexander Bendahan alors qu’il film un concert à Lorient. Le courant passe vite entre ces deux amoureux de cinéma et de musique, et il décide de se lancer dans le projet « Parlez-Vous Musique? ». En 2018 Charly retourne s’installer à Chamonix ou il à passé plusieurs années enfant et adolescents pour y fonder avec ses amis d’enfants Invade Media Production. Ensemble ils vont produire un documentaire « Hunza ski and culture in Pakistan »(qui sera notamment diffusé dans plusieurs pays à travers le monde grace au Banff Festival) tout en travaillant en parallèle pour divers clients dont Les Nuits de la Glisse, Arc’teryx, Lombard Odier, FIBA, Jack Morton Worldwide.

It's a celebration of Saint Barth musical heritage and a look at the wide variety of musicians who come here from around the globe, adding to the mix. The people here on one of the smallest and most beautiful Caribbean islands have always had a unique musical style. A style distinctly different from their neighbors. Over the years St, Barth musicians created their own musical blend a tradition that continues today.
Two of the main unifying factors on the island are family and music and few locals actually earn their living performing. Bands arrive from Paris and New York for the tourist season. Instead, island musicians come from all walks of life. Family and local celebrations maintain the traditional music and instruments. Parlez-vous Musique? goes into the neighborhoods for an up-close look at island music and the people creating it.
Alexander Bendahan (independent film producer/director) was raised in San Francisco, California. He began his involvement with film in 2000. At age 50, he returned to complete his studies at San Francisco City College and subsequently Cal State Hayward and San Francisco State University, majoring in music composition and electronic music. Bendahan, who by that time was a music professional with 30 years professional experience, worked together with a number of fellow students, creating music and sound for their graduate film projects.
In 2003 he began producing his own first film projects in France, starting with a promotional clip for an opera company in the Pyrenees mountains, followed by a documentary short with British photographer Rose Murray. In 2009, he began working with the Saint Barthelemy Music Festival, which led to a connection with the St. Barth Film Festival and the production of his first independent feature-length documentary project Parlez-vous Musique?
Charly Veille was born in Guadeloupe in 1988. His roots are both French and West Indian, and in spite of many trips with his parents, he grew up between Guadeloupe and St Barthélemy.
In eighth grade at the Mireille Choisy middle school in St Barth, he met videographer Nicole Péraud during an audiovisual workshop, and his passion for the cinema was born. He left to attend high school in Canada, with the goal of making documentaries and video clips. Diploma in hand, he returned to
St Barth and starting working in video, making a few clips for local artists or those visiting the island as well as covering events.
He met Alexander Bendahan when he was filming a concert in Lorient. They hit it off and with their shared love for cinema and music, Charly decided to join the team for Parlez-Vous Musique?
In 2018 Charly moved to Chamonix, where he had spent part of his childhood, and with a few friends founded Invade Media Production. Together, they produced a documentary, Hunza Ski and Culture in Pakistan, (which will be distributed in several countries thanks to Banff Festival), while also working with diverse clients (Les Nuits de la Glisse, Arc’teryx, Lombard Odier, FIBA, Jack Morton Worldwide).
