The Saint Barth Film Festival “Cinéma Caraïbes” is back after a two-year absence due to the Covid pandemic. On May 4-7, 2022, the festival will celebrate its 25th anniversary, which did not take place as planned in 2020, or again in 2021.
Four feature-length films are on the program for the 25th St Barth Film Festival, including two documentaries. The first two films will be shown on May 4 and 5 at AJOE in Lorient, while the films on May 6 and 7 will be shown on the dock in Gustavia, pending approval from the Collectivity.

Réalisé par le musicien cubain Edesio Alejandro et le cinéaste irano-britannique Mo Fini, Mambo Man raconte l’histoire d’un agriculteur cubain et promoteur de musique. Ce film s’est vu accorder quinze prix, dont celui de meilleur réalisateur et meilleur film de fiction au Festival international du cinéma de Festigious, meilleur long métrage aux Florence Film Awards, meilleur film étranger au Moody Crab Film en Inde et meilleur long métrage de la saison au festival Best Global Shorts.
Ce film indépendant, tourné dans la région orientale de Cuba, a été produit par Tumi Music, une compagnie britannique qui enregistre des musiciens traditionnels cubains depuis des années. Le film est interprété par le connu acteur cubain Héctor Noas, avec le long métrage spécial des musiciens Cándido Fabré, Maria Ochoa, Arturo Jorge, David Álvarez et Julio Montoro.
Edesio Alejandro Rodríguez Salva (né le 28 mars 1958) est un compositeur cubain de musique électronique. Il a composé des musiques pour le théâtre, la TV et le cinéma ainsi que plusieurs compositions données en concert. Beaucoup sont expérimentales, utilisant des synthétizers et mélangeant acteurs, danseurs et musiciens dans des line-ups bien particuliers. Son opéra rock Violente de 1987 est considéré comme le premier opéra rock d' Amérique Latine. Son groupe, actif depuis 1988, a un son innovant et éclectique, fusionnant styles cubains comme la rumba et le conga avec des genres étrangers comme le rap, funk, soul ou hip-hop.
Il s'est produit en Amérique du Sud, Canada et Europe. Ses albums Orisha Dream et Black Angel ont été parmi les 100 premiers albums de World Music (Musique du Monde) en 1999. Blen Blen, de son CD Black Angel était pendant plusieurs semaines en première place du classement MTV Europe Dance Floor. En 2010 il a été nommé au Latin Grammys et en 2011 au Grammys Américains pour la production de "100 sones cubanos". Dans son œuvre on note les collaborations remarquables avec le réalisateur Fernando Perez.
En 2013, il fut accepté comme membre de l'Académie des Arts et des Sciences Cinématographiques d'Espagne. Il a co-réalisé le film Mambo Man. Basé sur une histoire vraie et filmé dans la campagne exotique en dehors de la Havane, ce beau film engageant animera à la fois votre esprit et vos pieds avec cette passion inoubliable et cette musique enivrante. La bande originale et les performances live du film incluent certains des artistes cubains légendaires apparus dans le célèbre film Buena Vista Social Club.

This award-winning film was directed by Cuban musician Edesio Alejandro and Iranian-British filmmaker Mo Fini. Mambo Man tells the story of a Cuban farmer and music promoter who gambles everything for a deal that seems too good to be true.
This film has won more than 15 awards including: Best Director and Best Fiction Film at the international film festival Festigious; Best Feature Film at the Florence Film Awards; Best Foreign Film at Moody Crab Film Fest in India: and Best Global Feature of the Season at Best Global Shorts, among others.
Mambo Man is packed with musical contributions from Cuban legends including; Candido Fabre, Maria Ochoa, Alma Latina, David Alvarez, Arturo Jorge, Omara Portuondo, Eliades Ochoa, Juan De Marcos Gonzalez and the Afro-Cuban All Stars.
Edesio Alejandro Rodríguez Salva (born March 28, 1958) is a Cuban composer of electronic music. He has composed music for theatre plays, TV, and movies; as well as several concert compositions. Many of them experimental, using synthesizers and mixing together actors, dancers, and musicians in unusual line-ups. His rock opera, Violente (1987), is considered the first rock opera in Latin America. His band, active since 1988, has an eclectic and innovative sound, using Cuban styles such as rumba and conga, in fusion with foreign genres such as rap, funk, soul, and hip-hop.
He has played in South America, Canada, and Europe. His albums Orisha Dreams and Black Angel were among the first 100 of World Music in Europe in 1999. Blen Blen, from the CD Black Angel, was first place for several weeks in the MTV Europe Dance Floor Charts. In 2010 was nominated to the Latin Grammys and in 2011 to the American Grammys for the production of "100 sones cubanos." Among his work are noteworthy collaborations with film director Fernando Pérez.
In 2013 he was accepted as a member of the Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences of Spain. He co-directed the film, Mambo Man. Based on a true story and filmed in the exotic countryside outside Havana, this remarkable and engaging film will move both your spirit and your feet with its unforgettable passion and intoxicating music. The soundtrack and live performances in the film include some of the legendary Cuban artists who appeared in the box office smash, Buena Vista Social Club.
