Avec Les Voiles de St Barth, le Livre & Jazz Festival, et le West Indies Regatta au mois d’avril il a été décidé que la meilleure semaine pour le St Barth Film Festival est fin avril-début mai 2019.
Notre soirée d’ouverture aura lieu le dimanche 28 avril 2019 sur le quai du port de Gustavia en collaboration avec la soirée de clôture du West Indies Regatta. Nous avons collaboré avec cette régate plusieurs fois les années passées avec succès, une première fois avec la projection du film Vanishing Sail d’Alexis Andrews et ensuite avec des films musicaux comme Havana Moon (Rolling Stones) et Playing For Change. Cette année, le film d’ouverture présenté pour vous en avant-première, est Inna de Yard, un documentaire sur des légendes du reggae, genre musical mythique et universel.
Du 30 avril au 4 mai, on continue avec des séances en soirée à l’AJOE, dont Roma d'Alfonso Cuaron, sacré meilleur film étranger au Oscars 2019, notre film de clôture. Nous vous attendons aussi nombreux à nos présentations en après-midi au Théâtre du Paradis, les 2, 3 et 4 mai ainsi qu'à notre causerie, rencontre intimiste du samedi matin 4 mai au Restaurant Le Repaire avec le réalisateur Guy Deslauriers.

Le St. Barth Film Festival fut créé en 1996, l’idée étant de permettre à cette île et sa population de découvrir la richesse de la culture caraïbe dans son sens le plus large, à travers son cinéma. Le succès de la première édition a motivé son développement en un rendez-vous annuel. Depuis, le festival a confirmé son important rôle de lieu de présentation du “Cinéma Caraïbe”. A présent un événement établi dans le calendrier culturel de l’île, le festival est reconnu comme lieu de rencontres et d’échanges cinématographiques où les cinéastes peuvent projeter et montrer leurs films ainsi que discuter de leur travail.

As Les Voiles de St Barth, The Book & Jazz Festival, and the West Indies Regatta are all in the month of April, we decided that the best week for the St Barth Film Festival is late April/early May.
Our opening night will be Sunday, April 28, on the dock in Gustavia, in collaboration with the West Indies Regatta. We have successfully collaborated with this regatta a few times in the past, twice with the film Vanishing Sail by Alexis Andrews, then with musical films such as Havana Moon (Rolling Stones) and Playing For Change. This year, the opening
night film is the avant-première of Inna de Yard,
a documentary about reggae, a much-loved
musical genre.
From April 30 to May 4, we continue with films screenings at AJOE at 8pm, with our closing film, Roma, by Alfonso Cuaron, winner of Best Foreign Language Film at the 2019 Oscars. We also invite you to our afternon screenings at 2pm at the Théâtre du Paradis, on May 2, 3, and 4, as well as our special “Chat With Guy Deslauriers,” on Saturday morning May 4 at Le Repaire, offering a unique opportunity to meet this wonderful director from Martinique.

The St. Barth Film Festival was created in 1996, to give the island and its population the opportunity to discover the richness of Caribbean culture in its widest sense, by way of its films. The success of the first edition motivated its development into an annual event, and it has since gone beyond that to become an important rendezvous for Caribbean cinema. A fixture on the island’s cultural calendar, this festival is known as a forum for the screening of interesting films and meetings among filmmakers, a place there they can show their films and discuss them amongst themselves and with the island’s residents, tourists, and students.
